This qualification reflects the role of a skilled operator working with Civil construction plant, who applies a broad range of skills in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. The individual may provide theoretical advice and support a team.

Backhoe Operator
Backhoe Operators drive backhoes and operate attachments to excavate, break and level earth, rock and other materials.
Bogger Operator
Bogger Operators use small mining vehicles for transporting - or bogging - waste rock and soil or ore onto haul trucks or to different parts of a mining operation.
Bulldozer Operator
Bulldozer Operators drive bulldozers and operate attachments to prepare building sites, remove obstructions, move mining overburden and perform similar earthmoving tasks in a variety of construction and mining industries.
Dozer Operator (Mining and Extractive Industries)
Dozer Operators in the mining and extractive industries use bulldozers to gouge out and move rock, earth and other materials. They may move overburden; carry out pre-start checks; use machines to anchor form, and remove obstruction on roads. Dozer Operators in the mining and extractive industries may not require a full qualification; however the qualifications noted include the competencies required for their work.
 
Earthmoving Plant Operator
Earthmoving Plant Operators operate large, powerful earthmoving equipment. They prepare and operate machines and attachments, drive machines to and from work sites and clean, lubricate, re-fuel and repair machines.
Excavator Operator (Civil Construction)
Excavator Operators drive and control excavators to dig, move and load earth, rock or other materials.
Excavator Operator (Mining and Extractive Industries)
Excavator Operators in the mining and extractive industries operate excavators to dig, move and load earth, rock or other materials. They excavate to correct levels and alignment, working from drawings and markers, and back-fill trenches. Excavator Operators in the mining and extractive industries may not require a full qualification; however the qualifications noted include the competencies required for their work.
Excavator Operator (Mining)
Excavator Operators in the Mining industry operate excavators to dig, move and load earth, rock or other materials. They excavate to correct levels and alignment, working from drawings and markers, and back-fill trenches.
Face Loader Operator
Face Loader Operators in the extractive industries operate wheeled loaders to extract raw feed from the face. This can be blasted rock or sand and gravel. They normally load the raw feed on to haul trucks which carry the material to the stockpile areas or to the processing plant. Face Loader Operators may not require a full qualification; however the qualifications noted include the competencies required for their work .
Front-end Loader Operator
Front-end Loader Operators drive and control front-end loaders to lift and transport bulk materials and to load trucks or railcars.
Grader Operator (Civil Construction)
Grader Operators drive graders to spread and level materials on construction projects. They may also operate attachments to break up old paving or road beds.
Grader Operator (Extractive Industries)
Grader Operators in the extractive industries operate graders to spread and level materials and form and maintain roads and stockpile area on site. They also dig out ditches; and break up surfaces with scarifying attachments. Grader Operators in the extractive industries may not require a full qualification; however the qualifications noted include the competencies required for their work.
Grader Operator (Mining)
Grader Operators in the Mining industry operate graders to spread and level materials on site. They level surfaces according to survey pegs or signals from co-workers; dig out ditches; and break up surfaces with scarifying attachments. Further training may lead to work as a Quarry Mobile Equipment Operator.
Haul Truck Operator (Extractive Industries)
Haul Truck Operators in the extractive industries drive large trucks which transport raw mined materials from one area to another. They may also perform basic maintenance on trucks. Haul Truck Operators in the extractive industries may not require a full qualification; however the qualifications noted include the competencies required for their work.
Haul Truck Operator (Mining)
Haul Truck Operators in the Mining industry drive large trucks which transport raw mined materials from one area to another. They may also perform basic maintenance on trucks.
Inbye and Outbye Operator
Inbye and Outbye Operators work in underground mines maintaining supply lines and passages into and out of the mine. They may drive vehicles, transport supplies and equipment, assist with tunnel excavation, and maintain supply lines for utilities such as water.
Mobile Plant Operator (Extractive Industries)
Mobile Plant Operators in Extractive Industries are skilled drivers or operators of mobile plant such as graders, dozers or wheel loaders. They extract, load, haul and stockpile earth materials such as sand, gravel, crushed rock and clay in extractive materials operations. Mobile Plant Operators in the extractive industries may not require a full qualification; however the qualifications noted include the competencies required for their work.
Pipelayer Operator
Pipelayer Operators operate plant and equipment to support Pipelayers. They may also conduct water cart, scraper, trencher and compactor operations.
Plant Service and Maintenance Operator (Quarry)
Plant Service and Maintenance Operators service and maintain mobile and fixed quarrying machinery, including graders, trucks, crushers and conveyor belts. At senior levels, they may have leadership responsibilities.
Quarry Equipment Operator
Quarry Equipment Operators are entry level workers who use machinery to extract earth materials such as sand, gravel, crushed rock and clay from quarries.
Quarry Mobile Equipment Operator
Quarry Mobile Equipment Operators are skilled drivers or operators of mobile plant such as graders, dozers or crushers. They extract earth materials such as sand, gravel, crushed rock and clay from hard rock quarries.
Quarry Processing Plant Operator
Quarry Processing Plant Operators work machinery which turns quarried earth materials into useable products. They may wash and screen sand and gravel, or crush rocks. At senior levels, they may have leadership responsibilities. Quarry Processing Plant Operators may not require a full qualification; however the qualifications noted include the competencies required for their work.
Sales Loader Operator
Sales Loaders Operators in the extractive industries operate wheeled front end loaders to prepare and maintain stockpile areas; form and maintain stockpiles of raw feed and/or product; and draw material from stockpiles for loading into hoppers and/or trucks. Sales Loader Operators may not require a full qualification; however the qualifications noted include the competencies required for their work.
Scraper Operator (Civil Construction)
Scraper Operators drive scrapers to pick up, haul, deposit and level earth on construction sites.
Scraper Operator (Extractive Industries)
Scraper Operators in the extractive industries operate scrapers which pick up, haul, deposit and level earth on mining sites. They may scrape surfaces to a given depth; collect earth materials to be deposited elsewhere on site; and dump and spread material. Scraper Operators in the extractive industries may not require a full qualification; however the qualifications noted include the competencies required for their work.
Scraper Operator (Mining)
Scraper Operators in the mining industry operate scrapers which pick up, haul, deposit and level earth on mining sites. They may scrape surfaces to a given depth; collect earth to be deposited elsewhere on site; and dump and spread material according to the layout of survey pegs.
Shotfirer
Shotfirers assemble, position and detonate explosives to break or dislodge rock and soil. They decide the quantities of explosives required, insert detonators and charges into holes, connect and test or inspect blasting circuits, and fire charges. Shotfirers may not need full qualifications to perform surface or underground shotfiring; however the qualifications noted include the skill sets and competencies required for their work.
Shotfirer’s Assistant
Shotfirer’s Assistants help Shotfirers load and detonate charges to dislodge rock and soil. Shotfirer’s Assistants may not require a full qualification; however the qualifications noted include the competencies required for their work.
Water Cart Operator
Water Cart Operators in the extractive industries operate on-road or off-road vehicles fitted with water storage tanks and spray bars or nozzles. They use the water carts to distribute water over road surfaces, stockpile area floors and stockpiles generally to suppress dust or prevent dust being thrown into the atmosphere by vehicle movements and wind. Water Cart Operators may not require a full qualification; however the qualifications noted include the competencies required for their work.
